Introduction to JavaScript

This course will guide you through the fundamentals of programming in JavaScript and show how the language is used in modern web application development. You will learn how to write interactive browser scripts, work with the DOM, and handle user interactions. You’ll also explore asynchronous code, modules, and basic server-side applications using Node.js. By the end of the course, you will understand the core principles behind both frontend and backend development and be able to build your own functional web application.

About the course

The Micro-Credential provides a comprehensive introduction to programming in JavaScript, covering development both in the web browser (frontend) and on the server using Node.js (backend). Participants will learn core programming concepts, work with the DOM, and write scripts that respond to user interactions. They will then progress to building simple server-side applications. The course emphasizes practical examples and understanding key concepts such as asynchronous programming, modules, and object-oriented approaches in JavaScript.

Graduates of the course will master the fundamentals of JavaScript syntax and key programming principles. They will be able to work effectively with the DOM, handle user events, and apply object-oriented techniques when building interactive applications. They will understand asynchronous programming using callbacks, Promises, and async/await, and be able to build a simple HTTP server in Node.js. They will also be able to work with modules and structure larger projects, enabling them to independently develop smaller, fully functional web applications.
