Software Engineering and Big Data
Applications for the 2026/2027 academic year are still open. If this programme has caught your interest, you can submit your application until 31 October 2026.
Study in Czech
The standard time of study is 2.5 years
What will you learn?
How to choose the right data? Why more data does not automatically mean more information? How to collect data and how to work with it? What is included in data analysis and data visualization and how to interpret the results correctly? Our professors and professionals will provide you not only with the theoretical knowledge of statistical methods and their application, but you will also learn how to work effectively with data and results analysis. You will also learn how to visualize and interpret obtained results.
Which technologies are used in practice? What are the requirements if you want to become a highly sought-after IT specialist? What is influenced by software architecture? What about technologies for Big Data such as Hadoop, Spark, and others? And what about the Cloud? Do you want to know what type of projects are best suited to the cloud and when it is better to use an on-premise solution?
During classes you will use programming language R which is primarily designed for statistical analysis and the graphic interpretation of results. R enables the use of both statistical and programming functions. This programming language and its related software environment is widespread. Within your studies you will gain advanced working knowledge of R, which you will be able to put to practical use.
The Internet of Things (IoT) is currently in trend for controlling and communicating between devices and humans, or between devices themselves. Do you want to understand how applications for IoT devices work? Do you want to learn how to collect and analyze data from IoT devices effectively? And what about focusing on Industry 4.0.?
How to use machines to solve complex tasks or to process big data? How to use these machines to better understand our clients´ needs and so provide more effective solutions? What does ‘machine’ and ‘deep learning’ mean and how does this relate to so-called data science? Learn how to improve your employees’ effectiveness through artificial intelligence and use it as a valuable company asset.
What we offer
We provide interactive online books and courses to make studying more effective. In a well-organized way the books explain the subjects that are taught during the lectures. The course work is supplemented by special programming tasks and exercises. In each course you will validate what you have learned through interactive lessons that include knowledge cards and test questions.
AI won't take your job. But someone who knows how to work with it may have an advantage. That's why you'll learn to use AI as a practical tool throughout your studies – from giving it the right instructions and using it effectively to reviewing and verifying its outputs. We don't teach you to let AI think for you. We teach you to understand your field well enough to recognize when AI is helping you and when it's wrong.
In cooperation with experts from the Czech Statistical Office we organize data hackathons where you can try data processing, data analysis, and data interpretation. You will participate in teams under the supervision of our professors.
During the seminars and multi-day hackathons that are part of your studies, you will try many complex practical tasks, such as designing a cloud application which communicates with IoT devices. You will solve tasks as part of a team with your colleagues and you will be supervised by professionals and professors from the Unicorn University.
During your studies you will participate in a half-year internship with one of our partner companies and institutions. You can experience your internship within a respected organization such as KPMG, KPMG, Unicorn or Microsoft (here is a complete list of our partners). This opportunity will provide you with valuable practical experience and will look great on your curriculum vitae!
Be careful the Master's degree is only available in Czech. In English You can study the Bachelor's degree in Software Development or Business Management.
Students develop communication skills, learn to solve problems together, and gain valuable real-world experience. Teamwork prepares them for professional life, strengthens responsibility, and the ability to work with diverse individuals.
Recommended plan of study

Students are informed in advance about the courses that will be offered for the given semester in advance through news. If only a small number of students enroll in a course, it may be cancelled in exceptional cases.
Final State Examination
The student must take two state final exams:
- Analysis and interpretation of data
- Software Engineering
The defense of the final thesis can take place only after the fulfillment of all study obligations given by the relevant study program (with the exception of the passing of the Final state exam).
Stories of our graduates
Our graduates find jobs in various IT positions, as analysts, business architects, developers, configuration managers, database specialists, or IT consultants. Many of our graduates start their own business after finishing their studies, and some go on to study for their master’s.
