Unicorn College becomes Unicorn University and first all-online university

Prague, 1 June 2020 – Unicorn University, a private school, offers study programs in information technologies, data analysis and business. The school started 13 years ago as Unicorn College and has now grown into a university offering master degree programs since 2019/2020. At the moment, it is the first university in the Czech Republic preparing an all-online form of study.

"We are already prepared for an all-online form of study. The closure of educational institutions due to the coronavirus pandemic gave us an opportunity to prove that we are. We are planning to continue to offer both full-time and part-time study options in the next academic year when the e-learning and online lectures will be an important, though only supplementary, channel. If the process of accreditation of the part-time study will proceed as we expect, we will become the first Czech university you can study completely online. That should happen in the following academic year at the latest, that means in September 2021,” says Ing. Marek Beránek, Ph.D, Unicorn University Managing director.

The demand for the Unicorn University study programs focused on information technologies, data analysis and business has been growing over the years. There are currently 444 students from 18 countries studying for two bachelor and two master degrees. Prospective students can choose from bachelor degrees in Software development or Business management and two follow-up master degrees in Software engineering and big data or the economy-oriented Applied economy and data analysis

Two degrees at once

"Those who want to get two degrees at the same time, have the opportunity to enrol in the Double Degree program realised in cooperation with University of Applied Sciences Würzburg-Schweinfurt, which is one of the greatest educational institutions in Bavaria. The students of the program start studying at either of the partner schools, in Prague or Bavaria. Then, in the following academic year, they study at the other school and the final third year they return to the original school. Both degrees they receive upon a successful study on both schools are internationally recognised,” says prof. Ing. Jan Čadil, Ph.D., Unicorn University President.

The students of Unicorn University take part in a several-month long apprenticeship in real projects during their studies. This way they connect the theoretical knowledge with real needs of companies and institutions, such as Microsoft, KPMG, ČSÚ, Raiffeisen Bank and, naturally, the mother company Unicorn, the leader on the market of information systems and solutions. Students can also take part in international projects of Unicorn University, for instance, software development for CERN or Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory.

Our own publishing and Top Gun Academy

Unicorn Publishing operates under Unicorn University and publishes online educational material, mainly online courses and books. The aim is to provide easy access to education and allow people to study anywhere and anytime.

In addition, the university runs Top Gun Academy - a long-term complex educational system for all co-workers of the mother company Unicorn, including the examination of knowledge, ensured by long-term standardisation of co-workers’ know-how.
