Server room
The project for monitoring server room operational parameters using IoT technology components in Hardwario, was designed by Unicorn University student Bc. Ilja Lisunov as a part of his bachelor’s thesis. The proposed solution using modular IoT components provides temperature and humidity monitoring for key parts of the server room, as well as visualization, evaluation, and the online tracking of data. The solution also includes a flood sensor installed to detect any air conditioning system failures.
There are sensors placed at various locations throughout the server room, gathering temperature and humidity data online. The data is evaluated on a continuous basis and sent to an external server via a wireless network at configurable intervals. The flood sensor, as a safety element, provides remote detection of possible server room air conditioning system failures.
As a part of the project, two possible solutions for monitoring the server room operational parameters were designed and tested. The first solution employs Arduino and inexpensive sensors made in China, while the second solution is built with the IoT construction kit, known as BigClown, designed by Hardwario and Raspberry PI. While the first option is less expensive thanks to the readily available materials, the sensors employed proved to be somewhat inaccurate. The option built from BigClown components provides significantly more accurate data, does not require frequent maintenance, and can connect from greater distances.
