Jan Bambousek is a day student of the SoftwareDevelopment programme, who enrolled at the university on hisneighbour’s suggestion. ,,My neighbour studiedat Unicorn University to get his bachelor degree and was singing praises of theinstitution,” says Jan, who waslooking for a school to provide ample practical experience at the time.

,,I really wanted to try my hand at application development. That was the reason Iwent for Unicorn University and enrolled at its Software Development programmetwo years ago,” he says. And his first year started just as he expected: ,,We weretaught to build websites and applications from the get go, so the universitymet my expectations at 110 %”.
Real-World Projects
Students are required to complete mandatory internships, either with Unicorn or with its corporate partners. As Bambousek works for a healthcare company, taking care of its insurance business and reporting, he was intrigued by an offer of internship at Pojišťovna VZP (PVZP). ,,Me and my colleague have been assigned the task of building an application to monitor and report on home office efforts”, says Jan, explaining that its first prototype should be ready by the end of June.
Established System
Unicorn University operates under the auspices of a Czech software house, Unicorn. According to Bambousek, the ties between the university and a major software company provide great benefits. ,,Application building tools are already there, so we can work with an established system”, says Jan. Also, he admires his teachers, as they are really enthusiastic for their subjects. ,,Listening to lectures on IoT given by Tomáš Jukin, I could see that he was really interested in the subject. And he is an expert in the field. I have consulted several of my projects with him and he was always ready with an advice.” Jan also mentions Marek Beránek, Managing Director of the University, whom he has often met for consulting on his PVZP application. ,,It’s very important to me that we are on the same wavelength with my teachers”, he says.
