Introduction to computer systems

The aim of the course is to introduce students to the basic views of a computer system, both from a hardware and operating systems perspective. From a hardware fundamentals perspective, the course provides knowledge of computer architecture. It is primarily a theoretical basis for understanding the structure of the computer, the technical equipment and the functioning of personal computers.

Introduction to computer systems architecture
Building a computer and motherboard
Microprocessors and microprocessor communication with the environment
Memory, hard disk and portable media
Graphics adapters and display units
I/O devices

Operating system foundation blocks

Principles of operating systems
Basic operating system architecture and system calls
Managing processes running in the operating system, processes and threads, and related
Memory management and paging
The file subsystem and its structure and rights
Graphics subsystem, HW acceleration
Mobile OS (Android)
