Tomáš Kremr
new Head of the Department of Economics and Management
Tomáš Kremr became a new Unicorn University team member. Tomáš took up the position of the Head of the Department of Economics and Management on 1st May 2020. The former Head, Jana Švejdová, changed her position to the Vice-president for Pedagogy. Who is Tomáš, what brought him to Unicorn University and what are his aims here?
Can you tell us something about yourself?
Hello to everyone, my name is Tomáš Kremr. I am from Prague although I was born in Kroměříž where my grandfather worked as the senior doctor at the maternity ward. I’ve always loved returning to South Moravia to see my grandparents.
I started at Unicorn University at the beginning of April and took up the job of the Head of the Department of Economics and Management. Before that, I worked for over twenty years in management of multinational corporations (Mars, Danone, Pepsi Cola). I’ve focused on the academia in the last few years, e.g. the University of Economics where I completed my bachelor and master study (Faculty of International Relations) and I am currently finalizing my doctoral studies at the Department of Economic History (Faculty of Economics).
I’ve also given lectures, mainly on management, at several private universities.
In my spare time, I pursue my hobbies – cynology, sports (cycling) and I publish papers on economic history in expert journals.
What is your job about, what do you expect and what are you looking forward to?
I’m looking forward to working as the head of department a lot. I hope it fulfils my idea of meaningful work. I’m looking forward to the variety in the position, working with students, gaining experience from my colleagues, the possibility to influence the course of the department, cooperating with the school and Unicorn management.
I’d like to combine my experience from corporate environment with academia.
What do you wish to achieve at Unicorn University?
I’d like to build an environment with first-class service to our students, the company management and teachers. My goal is to ensure the quality of the teaching staff and of the content of the range of study props offered to our students that we’d like to extend. We aim to provide students with online textbooks and classes to all our key courses. We also want to make sure that as many lectures as possible are streamed and subsequently available for students to watch. We also aim for implementing a new type of study props into our system, i.e. podcasts.
Our future lies in enhancing the possibility to study online. The support of Unicorn can represent a huge competitive edge for us.
My goal is to build and ensure courses that are practical and prepare our students for a complex future. I wish that our graduates always represent the first choice to potential employers.
I’d also like Unicorn University to be a respected institution in the academic environment in the Czech Republic and Europe.
Is there anything you’d like to tell our students and candidates?
On one hand, I recommend everyone to follow a Napoleon’s quote: “My will, character, diligence and boldness made me who I am.” One should also be able to enjoy life on the other hand. Especially, the time of university studies can be a source of many lovely memories. Therefore, work hard but also devote some time for yourself, your family and hobbies.
